I was always planning to write a book called "Bastards I Have Met", until I found Barry Crump had already done it.
Hamish wouldn't have been in that book, he's destined for the sequel, "Hard Bastards I Have Met."
A few days before Gathering 2 Murray was towing a hydraladder up to the site when the Chev boiled. Hamish was summoned. Inspection revealed a cracked radiator, blamed on the hell road in to Caanan. Around this time I arrived to survey the damage. Alternatives were reviewed and a plan evolved.
The radiator cap was modified for an unpressurised system. The bonnet was removed.
A twenty liter container of water was strapped down in front of the windscreen.
A length of hose was connected between the container and the radiator overflow.
The tap was turned and a constant loss cooling system born.
Then, to ensure that the water didn't run out before the road did, Hamish rode the distance in the engine bay, next to a gnarly 407 Chev smallblock, to act as a thermostat.
Most people who drove those eight kilometers of heavily corrugated single lane winding mountain dust road were reminded of Dante's Inferno, and they were sitting on a SEAT inside a car.

Hardcore.
